EASTHAVEN Deacon's MINISTRY

We have a body of Deacons who are available to make hospital visits, home visits and new member visits as well as providing help to members and others in our community as required to further Easthaven's ministry in the Flathead Valley.  Contact information for all of the active deacons is listed on the back of the weekly bulletin.  The deacons are on a rotation and the current deacons on call are always designated in the bulletin as well.

Welcome New Deacons

Darren Banek

I grew up in a Christian home as my dad was the pastor of a small church in Conrad MT.  It was when I was in the first grade that I  knelt down beside my bed with my dad, and to the best of my understanding, asked Jesus into my heart and to forgive me  of my sins.
However, it was not until I was in middle school that I realized there had to be more.  If being a "Christian" was just about following the rules, being good in school and not causing problems for my parents, then I was not interested in the formality. However, it was that same day that I realized that I needed to come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was not about following the rules, it was about following a Personal God. That day I rededicated my life and was baptized shortly after that.

I grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as my savior at a young age. My parents worked as missionaries with MAF working in Ecuador South America, so church was a part of every day life.

In 1996 my family moved from Ecuador to Moscow, Russia.  As a teenager, this transition threw me out of my comfort zone and brought me to the realization that I needed to make my faith my own.  I rededicated my life to Christ at this time and committed to following God where He leads.

Over the years since then, God has continued to guide me through His grace. Although it has not always been easy, He has been faithful to be there every step of the way.  In 2005 I was blessed to marry my wife Marcie, she is a gift from God to me.  Then, in 2010, we celebrated the birth of our daughter Katrina.  Having a child of my own has given me an even deeper understanding of the love God has for us when he calls us His children.

Suny Cheff's Testimony of Salvation:

I was raised in the church, growing up as a Pastor’s son.  My father was attending Western Baptist College in Salem Oregon when I was 4.  It was on the way to the campus one morning that I asked my father if I could ask Jesus into my heart, and he quickly pulled over on the side of the gravel road in our Ford pinto station wagon.  After a few more questions, he led me in a prayer of professing my faith and repentance of my sins.  Although I have done my worst sinning as a Christian, I have had the privilege of God’s protection, correction, guidance, and love for 31 years now.

As a young boy, Betty Smith taught our Sunday School class the familiar Bible stories from the Old Testament.  In 1959 I went forward with my Dad and two brothers.  It was a very emotional experience; I remember the evangelist quoting several verses and having us (my brother and I) repeat a prayer after him. At that time I did not understand the gospel. When I was 12, my Dad took me out to the wood pile to give me a spanking.  Instead, he had me sit down and he shared the gospel with me. . . how Jesus had shed His blood and died for me, paying the price for my sins and that He wanted to give me eternal life.  Then he did not ask me to do any thing; he said to go on about my day. About 2 months went by and the Holy Spirit began to work in my heart.  This went on for two weeks. The thought kept building in my mind that I did not know if I was saved or not. One afternoon my brother was on my right walking with me to the house when lightning struck real close and the thunder was right over us. It knocked him to the ground and in that instant I realized I needed to settle this in my own heart. I ran around to the other side of an old dump truck, dropped down on my knees, put my arms on the running board and said,  "God I don't know if I am saved or not, but I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior right now.”  From that time to this, I have never doubted that God kept His Word and saved me.
